Plastic pipes: general information

Plastic pipes are one of the most well-known plumbing materials, which are familiar to almost everyone. Plastic pipes are not used in household conditions because they have very low heat resistance. However, when considering the elements of these pipes, they are used in the bathroom and kitchen. For example, the most familiar case might be a siphon, which is a curved drain pipe.

If we consider the characteristics of plastic plumbing in general terms, it should be said that plastic pipes are made of plastic, which, by the way, serves as a raw material for most synthetic products.

Plastic is divided into two types, each of which has its own features, depending on the substances from which the material is directly produced. The first type is thermoplastics, which are characterized by the fact that they soften when heated. Thermoplastics are distinguished by their increased flexibility – they are not brittle and have high plasticity. Examples of thermoplastics include materials such as acrylic glass, polyethylene, and others. The second type is thermosetting plastics, the feature of which is that, unlike thermoplastics, they do not soften when heated. Often such plastics are quite brittle, as well as strong. Thermoplastics of such types as unplasticized polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, which has increased strength and density, and others are used in the manufacture of household plumbing devices. Plastic plumbing, unlike metal polymers, does not have a special variety of possibilities and properties, but, however, has a number of advantages. First of all, it is worth mentioning the ease of installation of these drain plastic devices. Also, the convenience and comfort of their transportation should be highlighted. In addition, plastic drains are the least susceptible to corrosion processes, which determines their long service life. Plastic, the smooth surface of which reduces the risk of clogging with various debris, also does not require painting. Plastic products also excellently resist condensation, which significantly hinders the formation of negative vapors in various parts of bathrooms.

If we talk about the process of producing plastic pipes, it should be noted that unplasticized polyvinyl chloride is used here as the primary material, the distinctive feature of which is that it has higher strength and heat resistance. Types of plastic pipes vary significantly from each other: they can have a different diameter (from 40 to 100 mm), as well as a different size (from 2 to 10 m). It is also important that the plastic water supply significantly hinders the occurrence of stray current processes.

Buying plastic pipes is a responsible process that requires a serious approach and consideration of a number of details and features. For example, when buying them, it is necessary to pay attention to a number of features: the pipe cut must be vertical (this will serve as a necessary guarantee for correct installation), and the material itself must have a smooth surface.
